Pure Activated Coconut Charcoal
Activated Charcoal can be used in multiple applications!
Water filtration
-
Activated charcoal is a popular way to reduce heavy metal and fluoride content in water. Activated charcoal based filters are used widely in water filtration, both commercial and domestic.
Skin Treatment
-
When applied to the skin it’s an effective treatment for acne and insect or snake bites. Activated Charcoal is often added to clay based masks to aid in drawing toxins, excess oil, and bacteria off and out of the skin.
Pets
-
Activated charcoal is used in most aquarium filters, either in a compressed format or loosely in filter bags. When used in water filters it removes toxins and bacteria from the aquarium water aiding in the overall health of your aquatic creatures.
-
Activated charcoal is a commonly prescribed emergency treatment in dogs who have ingested a potential toxin. When administered quickly after exposure, activated charcoal can prevent your dog from developing symptoms of poisoning.
Tooth Whitening
-
Using activated charcoal to brush your teeth is said to whiten them. It’s said to do so by absorbing plaque and other teeth-staining compounds.
Purify the air in your home
-
Wrap some activated charcoal in a linen sheet or cloth, then place the charcoal wherever it’s needed. If you don’t have linen, choose a tight-weave breathable fabric, like cotton (you could even use a clean cotton sock!). Avoid using fabric that has a detergent or bleach smell. The charcoal will absorb these smells, too, decreasing its effectiveness.
-
For improved air purification, position a fan so it blows air over the charcoal. As air passes over the charcoal, it will be purified.
Improved Kidney Function
-
Activated charcoal may help improve kidney function by promoting the elimination of toxic waste products. This may be particularly useful in cases of kidney disease.
Reduce Cholesterol Levels
-
Activated charcoal seems to help reduce cholesterol levels.
That’s because it can bind cholesterol and cholesterol-containing bile acids in the gut, preventing the body from absorbing them
In one study, taking 24 grams of activated charcoal per day for four weeks lowered total cholesterol by 25% and bad LDL cholesterol by 25%. Good HDL cholesterol levels also increased by 8%.
Gas Reduction
-
Some studies report that activated charcoal may help reduce gas production following a gas-producing meal. It may also help improve the odor of gas.
Hangover Prevention
-
Activated charcoal can be used as a hangover cure. While consuming it with alcohol may reduce blood alcohol levels.
Overdose Treatment
-
In the emergency room, doctors may sometimes use activated charcoal to treat overdoses or poisonings. You should not attempt to treat an overdose at home.
Activated charcoal can often help clear toxins and drugs that include:
-
NSAIDs and other OTC anti-inflammatories
-
Sedatives
-
Calcium channel blockers
-
Dapsone
-
Carbamazepine (Tegretol)
-
Malaria medications
-
Methylxanthines (mild stimulants)
